Essentialzymes-4 is a multi-spectrum enzyme complex specially formulated to aid the digestion of dietary fats, proteins, fiber, and carbohydrates commonly found in the modern, processed diet. Essentialzymes-4 combines both animal- and plant-based enzymes into a single solution to help the body more completely break down problematic foods such as high fats and excessive starch. The dual time-release technology releases the animal and plant-based enzymes at separate times within the digestive tract, allowing for optimal absorption of key nutrients and amino acids. Dosing and delayed release explanation – reasoning
It is suggested that Essentialzymes-4 be dosed with your two largest meals of the day and to be taken with those meals. The new blister cards are perforated so that you can tear off a two capsule strip as a single dose. It is recommended to take both the natural and yellow color capsule as one dose. The yellow capsule is an immediate release and disintegrates within 20 minutes after entering the stomach. The natural colored capsule is a delayed release that disintegrates 2 hours after consumption.
There is evidence supporting that animal based enzymes, when released in the lower GI, perform better in a more alkaline environment, while plant based enzymes, when released in the broad pH spectrum of the stomach, is more conducive to enzyme break-down and supports proper absorption.

It is highly recommended that consumers use this product as directed on the package and do not remove the enzyme powders from either capsule.
